At Saint Clare, we serve as a trusted companion for families navigating the lifelong journey of special education. As one of the few private special needs schools in Singapore, our focus extends beyond academic outcomes. Who We Are

About Saint Clare School

Founded in 2007, Saint Clare School was established by passionate educators who believed in doing right by every student with developmental needs. Today, we remain a privately run institution with a singular mission: to raise the quality of life for our students by improving their living, learning, and working outcomes.

As one of the few special education schools in Singapore, we cater exclusively to children with special needs, offering individualised pathways from childhood through early adulthood. Every curriculum takes six weeks to design and is reviewed regularly to ensure relevance and personalisation.

Our structured yet nurturing environment is led by a dedicated team of lead teachers, co-teachers, Allied Health Professionals and support assistants with backgrounds in special education, speech/occupational therapy, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy, and behavioural support, working together to help each child make measurable progress.

Saint Clare is among the few specialist schools with an EduTrust certification, reflecting our commitment to structure, transparency, and continuous improvement. Progress is closely tracked through Individualised Education Programmes (IEPs), daily parent updates, quarterly lesson updates, and 6-monthly progress reports.

We focus on student outcomes over enrolment figures, offering academic support, life skills training, or therapeutic guidance to help each child build confidence and independence, one step at a time.

The school’s principal Mr Prakalathan Kelaver (Mr.K) has a Masters in Special Education awarded by University of Oklahoma in the US. 25 years experience as a special educator, 18 of which as a Vice-principal or Principal.

Has consulted on and presided over several thousand children with special needs in America, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Malaysia.

At the school, we have an average class size of 12 and a faculty staff for every 4 Students supported by our resident Occupational therapist and Speech therapist.

We are one of the special needs school in Singapore to attain EDUTRUST, a quality assurance certification from the Committee for Private Education (CPE).

For students aged 7 to 12, this integrates literacy, numeracy, science, social studies, personal health, and social communication with structured routines. Students practise collaboration, self-management, and problem-solving across projects and community experiences. Each learner benefits from tailored goals and consistent educator guidance.

For students aged 13 to 21, this stage balances academic subjects with vocational preparation. Lessons focus on literacy, numeracy, personal health, and career development. Standalone therapy may complement classroom goals, preparing learners for mainstream integration, supported employment, or the Pre-Vocational pathway.

Supporting Your Application

Our enrolment process is designed to ensure that every student is placed in the right environment with the right support from the start.

Before Enrolment – 3-Week Immersion Programme

All prospective students join a structured three-week immersion programme before formal enrolment. This provides them with the opportunity to experience the school environment while giving teachers valuable insights into their needs.

During this period, our teaching team observes each child’s academic, social, and emotional growth. This step allows us to assess learning challenges, strengths, and the type and degree of intervention required.

Official Enrolment & Creation of IEP

Following mutual agreement between parents and the school, the student is officially enrolled. A detailed Individualised Education Programme (IEP) is then developed, outlining goals, strategies, and support services tailored to the student’s unique needs.

Sherman was able to join North Light is solely due to Mr Kelaver's analysis of Sherman while he was in his class. Mr Kelaver told me that he assess his students and for those who could progress academically still, he will highlight to us and those who are unable to progress academically, he will help them look for a job the best they could.
